A Few Simple Ways to Have Your Job Postings Stand Out

In today’s post, we will discuss a few simple ways to have your job postings stand out. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the number of job postings out there? Candidates have hundreds, sometimes thousands, of job ads to scroll through. So what makes a great posting that will catch a reader’s attention? With a little creativity and insight, you can gain traffic to fill positions at every level.

     1. It Takes More Than Words

Text can be used to describe the things that need to be described in-depth, but it’s helpful to think outside of the box. Things like a short video, a graphic, or pictures can help your ad rise to the top. Eye-catching details will give you a strong start and are more likely to hook a candidate’s initial interest.

     2. Interesting Copy

Once you have their attention, the challenge becomes keeping it. This means making the copy interesting. Adding personality and checking your formatting for readability helps keep the attention of busy job seekers. As Shakespeare said, “brevity is the soul of wit.” Keep things brief and easy to read. Incorporating things like short lists and bullet points makes scrolling through fast. Using everyday language can help the reader feel like they are reading something conversational versus the standard job description only. Additionally, if your company has an interesting background or a strong social cause, you may also want to share a piece of the story behind why your company is great a place to work.

      3. Simply Irresistible Jobs

Hiring a job seeking is a two-way street these days. This means part of your job is to convince candidates why they should want to work for you. If you offer great benefits or have a collaborative team culture, these are selling points. Put yourself in the job seeker’s position. What makes your company a great place to work? Write down all the positive qualities that the job offers (the skeleton) and then build the muscle around the job itself.

     4. Tailor Make It

Tailor the posting for your ideal candidate. This can mean personality-wise or skills-wise. Don’t forget to include technical skills that you might need potential hires to have. Keep in mind that a posting for a marketing position may look different than a posting for someone in the industrial field. Just as you would build rapport in person by speaking the language of a potential client, write your posting for that type of candidate.

      5. Leverage Connections

Finally, don’t forget to harness the power of social media. If your team has LinkedIn profiles, encourage everyone to share. Make your posting easy to share and consider offering a referral bonus. Strategies like these can utilize the circle influence of your employees. If you have several openings, consider making an email newsletter that can quickly be forwarded.
